About Me
My name is Maisie Steinbrink and I am currently a junior at UW Madison on track to graduate in May 2016. I am majoring in genetics and molecular biology with a certificate in criminal justice. This web page was produced as an assignment for Genetics 564, a course based on genomic and proteomic techniques. I hope to go to graduate school and will be pursuing a career as a forensic scientist. I chose to study OCD because mental disorders are such a prevalent issue around the world, and something that is becoming more mainstream. With more people becoming interested in the genetics of mental disorders, including myself, this seemed like a good topic on which to focus my research. I also believe that a greater understanding of this topic could help the criminal justice system, since there is such a high degree of individuals with mental disorders concentrated in jails and prisons. The stigma against all mental disorders will only begin to lessen as further research is conducted.

Thanks so much to Dr. Ahna Skop, Sarah Neuman, and Ben Minkoff for their editing and critiquing throughout the semester, and to the rest of my classmates for their feedback.
